MUC Signs $4.2M Research Partnership with Province of New Brunswick

A Landmark Investment in Atlantic Canadian Research
Mag University Canada has signed a multi-year, $4.2 million research partnership agreement with the Government of New Brunswick — the largest research investment in the university's history and a defining moment for applied research in Atlantic Canada.
The partnership, announced at a ceremony at the Knowledge Park campus in Fredericton, will fund three dedicated research streams over four years: artificial intelligence applications in public health systems, rural workforce development through digital upskilling, and next-generation broadband connectivity modelling for underserved New Brunswick communities.
What the Partnership Covers
The $4.2 million investment will be distributed across MUC's Faculty of Science & Technology and Faculty of Health Sciences, with co-principal investigators from both faculties leading each stream. Key deliverables include:
- An AI-driven early warning system for rural hospital patient flow, developed in collaboration with Horizon Health Network
- A stackable micro-credential framework for displaced and transitioning workers across the province
- A geospatial broadband coverage model to support the province's $50M connectivity infrastructure investment

The New Brunswick Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour called the agreement "a strategic investment in the talent and innovation capacity that will define Atlantic Canada's next decade."
Research Positions Now Open
The partnership will create 12 funded graduate research positions and 6 postdoctoral fellowships commencing September 2025. Applications are open through the MUC Graduate Studies Office.
